The Road Trip is the third book in the Kate McCall series.
Business is good for novice private investigator Kate McCall. Not long after solving several cases, she’s hired for two more. Her little sister Stephanie is convinced her husband is cheating on her, and hires Kate to get the proof. Omnipresent neighbor and would-be mentor Mac also hires Kate, to investigate the threatening letters being received by a reclusive writer. What appear to be straightforward cases take typically odd turns, and before long Kate finds herself racing through three states, hoping her ancient car holds together, and enduring the increasingly annoying company of Mac, her con man cousin Nick, and the reclusive writer.
This is one road trip none of them will ever forget.
Fast paced and very funny, the Kate McCall series features a fearless and impulsive young woman absolutely determined to make a success of her business on her own terms and in her own way. Written for fans of humorous fiction, as well as for those who like imperfect female PIs and quirky cases, this lighthearted series will also appeal to anyone who enjoys a great read, memorable characters and a happy ending.
The Road Trip Kate McCall Book 3 edition by Tina Lencioni Literature Fiction eBooks
Not bad for ninety-nine cents. The main character is reminiscent of Stephanie Plum, but Kate McCall is a whole lot more capable of taking care of herself. Kate is smart-mouthed and sassy. Nick, her cousin, is an ex-con who has a good understanding of people, including Kate, and he uses his skill to help his cousin solve cases.I also want to write the review without spoiling the story, so here goes...
Ms. Lencioni can write, and careful readers will see growth between the first and third books. They are not laugh out loud funny, but they're not a snooze fest, either. This story is about a case that leads to a road trip from Washington state to California, and the author spends a good deal of time and space writing the journey from Seattle to LA. The characters fight and complain. They choose sides and jump sides. They learn new things about each other. They challenge each other--Mac, Kate and Nick's neighbor and self-appointed mentor, wants to do things the way he always has because that's the way he's always approached his work. Kate and Nick come from a big family. They use the tricks childhood taught them in order to get information from the people they talk to. All of the characters are trying to figure out how to live in their respective worlds, but they *are* learning. For this reader, that is important.
Overall, there were a couple of instances when the plot veered off course. Action that doesn't move a story forward needs to go, but, like I said, this is the author's third book and there is growth. The books appear to be self-published, and normally I hate self-pubbed work because the writers lack skill. Happily, that is not the case here, and I hope to see more by Ms. Lencioni. The author does need to brush up on comma rules because the errors pulled me out of the story more than once. Other readers might not notice them, but for me they stood out. All in all, that is my only complaint. Final verdict? Ninety-nine cents was a pretty good deal. Happy reading!

The Road Trip Kate McCall Book 3 edition by Tina Lencioni Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Very, very enjoyable read. In this book Kate McCall PI. Had to take her clients on a road trip, to find some dangerous? People, oh my it was the funniest thing i ever read i couldnt put it down. It was like the older Stephanie Plum series when they were funny, and you had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next.
After reading the three book Kate McCall series, I am craving MORE! Kate's interaction with her cousin Nick I thought was too, too funny...That's until Norbert comes into the picture in book three. Tina Lencioni has a gift of writing to a point where you truly visualize every single movement, and facial expression. She has you truly laughing our loud, with tears rolling down your face. MORE MORE MORE Kate McCall.....please!
Being from a large family, I can relate to the interaction of cousins, Kate and Nick. This book had me bursting out in laughter. Was going to wait until I finished the series to review but this book was too funny to put the review on hold. After reading the first McCall book, I immediately bought the rest of the series. Very glad I did because what a fun read!! Will be on the lookout for other books by Tina Lencioni.
This book is very funny; it has a road trip to LA with Kate, Nick, Mac, and Norbert (Mac's son). The three men are driving Kate crazy. Through it all though, they get to know each other very well. They are tracking down an old memory of Mac's that was featured in Norbert's book. With bad hair dye, a very smart monkey, an overheated car, and black mail this book has it all and it's all fun.
I have to say that I was laughing out loud with this book. I read this book first and I will definitely be reading the rest of them. I was looking for something funny to take my mind of off the daily grind and I found it with this book. The characters were hilarious and it was made even funnier because I have such a vivid imagination. I had a clear pictue of everyone on that road trip and throughly enjoyed myself. I have already downloaded book four and look forward to having a great time.
Thanks Tina-for the laughs.
i got through about 30% of this book before i gave up and skipped to the end to see what happened. it was even more confusing than the beginning. one of the issues i had right away was the concept that one could live completely off the grid. the character said there was no trace of him, no bank accounts, no social security card, utilities were in another person's name, etc but then said he worked writing for television and books and his agent sent him checks. well, how did he work? cash his checks? one can't do all the work under the table. if someone was paying for services rendered, someone was keeping track of where the money went. the first couple of books were interesting - quirky heroine but she got tiring ...
A real winner. I loved the main character Kate, loved how she dealt with all the men involved in this story and how she even manages to take jabs at the publishing industry (she's protecting a writer who has just produced a best seller but won't promote it and he is receiving death and blackmail threats). The Road Trip is well worth spending time with, a hilarious ride with witty dialogue, great characters who are well distinguished from each other, and an original plot with lots of surprises. Very entertaining. Sequel please!
